As of 2019, the app was available on more than 250 devices and platforms. On March 1, 2013, iHeartRadio was added to the Roku digital media receiver. In mid-October 2012, iHeartRadio launched online audio news, weather and traffic streams for Tampa, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, San Diego, New York City, and 15 other metropolitan cities, branded as "24/7 News".
On June 8, 2012, iHeartRadio concluded a deal to power Yahoo! Music's Radio service, previously powered by CBS Radio. On April 20, 2012, iHeartRadio launched on the iPad. The app was expanded to the Xbox 360 and webOS. The launch coincided with the inaugural iHeartRadio Music Festival, a two-day event hosted by Ryan Seacrest at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. September 2011 marked the official launch of the free, all-in-one iHeartRadio service featuring thousands of live radio stations and custom artist stations.

In 2009, iHeartRadio was made available to BlackBerry devices and the Android operating system and then Sonos in 2010. Twelve radio stations in 8 markets were included in this first release. On October 7, 2008, Clear Channel Radio launched the first version of iHeartRadio to the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch through the App Store. In August 2008, Clear Channel launched the iHeartMusic website, featuring entertainment news, national news, music content including albums, singles on demand, music videos, and access to over 750 Clear Channel radio stations online. Individual stations streamed from their own sites (or, in many cases, did not owing to voluminous syndication and local advertising clearance issues), and the Format Lab website provided feeds of between 40 and 80 networks that were used primarily on Clear Channel's HD Radio subchannels, many of which transitioned to iHeartRadio unchanged. Prior to 2008, Clear Channel Communications' various audio products were decentralized. IHeartRadio is owned by iHeartMedia, which was rebranded from Clear Channel in 2014. Comes in iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone 7, and Blackberry. Will the new iHeart take off? The critics will doubtless cry too little, too late. You can make Facebook comments about the songs like them dislike them do all the various things that Pandora lets you do. There are a variety of preset channels: 80s & 90s Classic Rock Reggae no big shockers here. A good selection came up: June Christy singing “Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered,” followed by an Eartha Kitt tune: “Ushaka Dara-A Old Turkish Tale.” But no Doris.Īnyway, your iHeartRadio channels come with three parameters: “Familiar artists,” “More discovery,” or a combination of the two. Another fine pick.īut I really wanted to hear another Doris Day piece, so I went back to that channel. The Bartok was followed by Schumann’s Fourth Symphony.

And the classical channel was commercial free (let’s see how long that lasts). Really fine tone for everything I listened to. I should note that iHeart’s sound is truly excellent. I got a performance of Bartok’s Romanian Folk Dances for violin and piano, which was a great opening choice.
Next I tried the app’s new classical channel. I went back to the home page to try again. To add insult to injury, the Clear Channel database followed that with Bing Crosby warbling “I’ll be home for Christmas.” That was it for me. As for Williams, that was an actual kick in the head, as far as I was concerned. Instead I next got Dean Martin crooning “Ain’t that a kick in the head,” followed by Andy Williams singing “Moon River.” Alas-I was hoping for a few more Doris Day tunes. And the system kicked in with Day doing her great version of “My Secret Love.”Įxcellent choice. I picked Doris Day (yes I’m a Doris Day song fan). Once you’re logged in, you can create your own channels by picking artists, genres, or bands. And if you overlook the annoyance that it requires you to ‘like’ it to get started, it’s a limited but reasonable application. iHeart is pretty easy to access via your Facebook account. I’m listening to Clear Channel’s new updated version of iHeartRadio, which allows you to create Pandora-like music channels.
