Yet, should a player take the time to tame the beast within this monster of a mech, the threat of a good Barbatos creates a cold sweat on any enemy team in Gundam Evolution. Easy to understand but much more difficult to master, Barbatos demands patience before chasing down their prey with devastating damage and high mobility.

If players looked at Barbatos through the Suits shown in the Gundam Evolution trailer and decided that the Iron Blooded Orphans mech was for them, they should be prepared to face many challenges while using this Unit. Very tricky to utilize without practice, using The Alaya-Vijnana System on low-health Mobile Suits mitigates the need for aim somewhat, as just one slash should take them out without a struggle. To use this G-Maneuver effectively, players should take a bit of time to aim in the direction they want Barbatos to slash without wasting the time the G-Maneuver has. Slicing through enemy Mobile Suits, Barbatos deals quick damage back to back that often gets too fast for even the player using the ability to register. Once players build up enough charge for Barbatos's ultimate G-Maneuver ability, The Alaya-Vijnana System, their Mobile Suit draws a sword to make three slashes quickly across an aimed space. Players have even more opportunities to score eliminations and build towards more capital points in Gundam Evolution, whether they use Boost Jump as a get-out-of-jail-free card or as a sudden drop from above. Barbatos players might take time to assess the battlefield, single out targets, or simply boost out of a bad situation if their dive into danger wasn't timed correctly. Making the threat of an instant elimination even greater, Boost Jump launches Barbatos into the air, where they can use the three bars of stamina to hover for a decent period of time. Furthermore, Mobile Suits that are attacked in this way cannot even be repaired, as the damage is high enough to destroy their Suit completely. Nearly every Unit in the game, even the incredibly high-health Sazabi Mobile Suit, gets destroyed immediately if a Long Sword attack follows up a fully charged Mace Smash. In the same vein as how Doomfist was one of the strongest heroes in the Overwatch 2 beta, Barbatos uses specific combos with the Long Sword and Mace Smash to eliminate other Mobile Suits quickly. Used in tandem with the Mace Smash, the Long Sword ability also stuns other Mobile Suits, this time in a slight range instead of against a single target.

To become effective with the Mace, players almost need to treat the tool as a gun that needs to be aimed assuming that the Mace will always hit a target close by may lead to confusion early on. Unless a player has an enemy Mobile Suit in the reticle of the Mace when it swings, no damage will register. One nuance to the Mace Sweep, which sees Barbatos swing the weapon at foes, comes through its use of hit-scan. The Mace Sweep or Mace Smash attacks are usable through the primary and alternate fire inputs, respectively, taking Barbatos's massive signature weapon and slamming it into opponents. Barbatos has 1000 health, not the lowest in the game, but nowhere near the levels of bulk from a character like the recently changed Reinhardt in Overwatch 2. Combined with three bars of stamina, an ability named Boost Jump also bolsters Barbatos's options further while players use Long Sword to finish off enemy Mobile Suits. Barbatos has two primary attacks with its Mace, called Sweep and Smash. The most important tools for players to remember when selecting Barbatos in Gundam Evolution are its extra mobility, high damage, and disruptive G-Manuever.
